Relief supplies are usually required in regions, which are cut off from general supply – either caused by natural disasters or by acts of war. Often, these transports have to be carried out via a non-functioning infrastructure or an infrastructure functioning only to a limited extent. In many countries political obstacles are added such as border controls or difficult political situations on-site. Furthermore, lots of shipments are very time critical. Thus, logistics have to be as flexible as possible.
